Basketball Weekend!

Friday night, February 4 we drove out to Hurricane with Chris and Linda Hatch and watched the BHHS boys basketball team beat Hurricane. It was an exciting game and fun to watch several boys in our ward play and do so well. Andrew was there with his friends. It was hot and crowded up at the top of the bleachers. They are getting a new gym built for next year. Our ward is very supportive of the young men from our ward who play on the team.

Saturday morning we left at 7:00 am and headed to Provo. We visited the BYU Museum of Art and saw the Carl Bloch exhibit of paintings of Christ. It was very humbling to listen to Pres. Holland speak about the Atonement of Christ while we viewed the painting of Christ being comforted by an angel in the Garden of Gethsemane. We also visited the exhibits in the basement: Three Mormon towns; photographs of Gunlock, St. George and Leeds in the 1950's, Western Landscapes, and War Art. I loved them all.

Next we were off to the Marriott center for the big game: BYU vs UNLV. They were really gaurding Jimmer so he only scored 29 points but made 16 of 16 at the free throw line. He also broke the record for most points scored in the Mountain West by a player. It was a lot of fun.

Next, we drove to SLC to the Energy Solutions Center for a Jazz game. Andrew had been awarded a $4,000. scholarship by Energy Solutions and they invited all of the winners to the game and to dinner before. They took a picture of the winners down on the floor before the game started and showed it on the Jumbo Tron at Half time. The Jazz bear stopped by during the dinner. Also the Pres. of the Jazz talked to the kids and Energy Solutions VP spoke to them about sticking with science and majoring in Engineering. He said you will never be without a job.

The game was great but the Oklahoma Thunder beat the Jazz. D-Will is just coming back from an injury but Millsap and Jefferson did well. They even treated us to snacks in the VIP room at half time. It was a fun experience and an honor for Andrew.

We left SLC at 9:30 and drove home. Dan took the first couple of hours and I drove from Fillmore to St. George; arriving at 2:00 am. Listening to Journey and Boston kept me awake. It was a great weekend of basketball. Sorry that Dawson was not able to enjoy it with us.
