Prescott AZ visit with Danielle and Steve

We stopped and saw the new bridge over the Colorado River below the Hoover Dam on our way.
This is the dental office where Steve will work as a dentist in Prescott.
We hiked and explored the lakes near Prescott.

We had an egg hunt with Alexa and celebrated Easter a few weeks early with her.
We stayed at a great Marriott in Prescott that I got on Priceline. They served a big, yummy breakfast and had a nice pool and courtyard. We even barbequed there on Sunday before we left for home.
We hiked up to Thumb rock above Prescott. They wouldn't let us go to the top because of some protected birds.
We hung out at the town square in Prescott and happened upon an election rally for Dan's cousin Jeff Flake. He is running for Senator in AZ. We met and chatted with his family.

We went to a couple of churches and checked out a few wards on Sunday.
On the way home we stopped and looked over the Colorado again--this time on the bridge near Lee's Ferry. With Steve and Danielle moving to Prescott in July, we'll be making this trip a little more often. Beautiful country!

Sunday Petraglyphs hike

o

It was such a beautiful day on Sunday that we decided to go for a short drive and hike to see the Petra glyphs out on the Arizona Strip. The boys through the frisbee and Brandy joined us for a fun outing. It was so nice to just sit a minute and reflect and enjoy the beauty of the world.

March Family News

March 2012

Spring Break officially starts today! Woo hoo! Dan finally has a full week of work so the boys are working during the days and hoping to find time for 4-wheeling, mountain biking and hiking in the afternoons this week. Dan has some mail boxes up north this week that we will be doing. Then we will go to Logan on Saturday to celebrate my parents March birthdays. They are in great health and just returned from a Hawaii cruise. My siblings all enjoy skiing and I love the fact that I can hike all year long in Southern UT.

We have a backpacking trip planned to Havasupai again in April. At the end of the month we will meet Steve and Danielle in Prescott, AZ where Steve is interviewing for a Dentist job. We are excited to explore the city and help them decide if they should move there this summer. We love the fact that it is just a 5 hour drive that is doable on a 3 day weekend and Cathy gives it two thumbs up; and she should know because she grew up there. Danielle will find the sex of their child later this month.

Carlton and Lindsey just had their Spring break and they took a little road trip to Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania to hike to the high points of each state. They have five states conquered now. And Dillon likes to go along for the hike. He is growing up and will be 5 months in a few weeks. I get to fly to Philly and see Lindsey and family at the end of the month. There is a National ESL conference there and so the school is paying for me to go there and I extended a couple of days so I can play with Dillon. J

Andrew entered the Red Rock Rampage mountain bike race and took first place in his age group and 2nd place overall. He would have come in first but his chain came off twice! He and his friends go 4-wheeling and camping every weekend. He still loves to help Dan build things and work on cars. I’m afraid he has ‘seniorites’ but is still getting good grades.

Dawson’s two good friends reported their missions on Sunday. He is so glad to have some friends home. Hopefully they will soon dare go on a date. He was glad to be able to attend the SLC temple with Darrell and Ryan on a recent road trip up North. He was also able to go and see Jonba play in the state playoffs. Thanks Eve and Darrell for feeding Dawson and his friend and giving them a place to sleep.

We are working on the garden and some spring cleaning this week. We may get Jonba and his buddies down this weekend and we invite anyone else who wants to have a get away to come and see us. You know we like a good reason to party.

Grandma keeps buying cute stuffed bunnies, care bears, and books at the ‘gettin place’ so you better come see her so she can give the cute great grand kids a grandma gift. We love Grandma so much and are so happy to have her here close by. We got to watch Courageous with her, Art and Apryl, Angie and Blake and kids, last night. Thanks to everybody for taking the time to write your letters!

LOVE to you all! Shelly, Dan and family

Red Rock Desert Rampage Race

Andrew participated in the Red Rock Desert Rampage Mountain Bike race on March 3. The race was over in Green Valley where Dan and the boys like to ride. Andrew was in the novice category and raced 7 miles. His time was 33.59 minutes. He came in 1st place in his age division. He came in second over all and would have been first but his chain fell off twice!

He is a great biker and could really do well if he decides to pursue mountain biking as more than just a hobby. He has enjoyed riding with the DHHS mountain bike club this spring.

It was a beautiful spring day and Dan and I enjoyed hiking up the Bloomington Gap wash while we hung around and waited for the awards ceremony.

Great job Andrew!

Andrew sterlilng Scholar Night

Andrew and all of the district Sterling Scholar winners were recognized at SCHS on Thursday night. Andrew won in the Skills and Trade Science division. Now we put together a 40 page portfolio showcasing his many awards and qualifications and then the final judging will take place on April 12. Andrew was also able to see who some of his competition will be from the other area schools. '=

He received a $200. check for winning. This is much better than it used to be when Danielle was awarded like $25.00. He will also receive a scholarship to attend college. Great job Andrew!

Elders for Dinner

We loved having the Elders over for dinner on Fast Day. Dawson is serving as a ward missionary in his Young Adult ward so we had the opportunity to have them come over. I sent an email and picture to each of their families so they could see what their son's were up to. I loved it when families would do this for me when my kids were serving so I vowed to do it each time I have the missionaries in our home.
