Article about Carlton in BYU-Hawaii Newspaper

Senior Carlton Taylor (pictured above) is finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. With graduation in April, he is preparing for his new life in Pennsylvania where he will be attending the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.
In seventh grade, Taylor was inspired to go to dental school by his orthodontist. He also found a love for tennis that became his main focus during his junior high and high school years.
"My orthodontist said that your grades in junior high and high school don't matter that much but your college grades do, so I started trying when I got to college and enjoyed it," said Taylor.
His passion for tennis brought him to BYU-Hawaii where he has been playing on the tennis team since his freshman year. When Carlton interviewed for dental school at the University of Pennsylvania, he felt like he had an advantage because he was from BYU-Hawaii.
"The interviewer was from Honolulu and his dad still lives in Honolulu as a practicing dentist. they thought it was cool I was from a smaller school," said Taylor.
Taylor, majoring in biochemistry, has enjoyed the many opportunities he has been given with the science department in doing research and having personal relationships with the professors.
"The friendships here are great because everyone knows everyone and I like that because I'm hot a number. The teachers know me," said Taylor.

Qwest Grant Award

Grant winners are recognized in SLC at a Technology Conference.
I had an unexpected visit from Qwest Communications and Charlie Roberts from the Washington County School District to present me with a grant award to purchase Adobe Design Suite 4 for my classroom computers. The school district will match the grant so the total is nearly $5,000. Great news for my students! I had to complete a lengthy grant application that explained how the award would contribute to student success.
