Andrew Senior Ball and Preference Dances

Andrew is enjoying all of the activities of his Senior Year. He invited BreAnna Hurdsman from our ward to the Senior Ball in January. It turned out to be a rainy day so they played indoor games at the church after going to the DI to buy each other fabulous outfits. They had lunch at Subway and dinner at the Cracker Barrel.

For the day date they went four wheeling in Warner Valley for about 7 hours. They had a great time. They ate at Applebees and had fun at the dance at Stephen Wade Auto Show Room.

February 2012

Hope everyone had a nice Valentines and got to spend it with people they love. Cupid hasn’t found Dawson yet; we can’t get him to go on a date. I guess he is just waiting for some of his friends to return from their missions so he has some support. He is busy in school and playing basketball and indoor soccer and mountain biking with Dan and Andrew.

Dan is busy looking for jobs. Hope he finds one soon; the “looking” doesn’t pay very well. He has switched his Bishopric duties from the primary to the YMYW so he is busy helping plan scouting activities and working with the young men aerating lawns to help raise money for those activities.

My school year is flying by. We added an additional period this year to help the students who need a little more help so it makes my days extra busy. I also have to test all of the ESL students individually at this time of the year so that takes a lot of time. I love my students and sometimes worry too much about them. I want them to find a better way.

Andrew is having a great senior year. He was chosen as the Sterling Scholar winner in Skills and Technical Sciences Education for his school. We just prepared a 40 page portfolio and he will interview soon for the Southwest region competition. He helped start a mountain bike club at his school and they ride once a week. Unlike Dawson, he has been dating and enjoying dances and four wheeling dates. J Andrew is hoping to go to EFY with his cousins the week before the reunion. Hope you guys can make it happen.

The temple is closed for cleaning for two weeks so Grandma and Art and Apryl are on a break. Dawson has also been helping in the baptistery on the early morning shift so he gets to sleep in a little more. Dawson was just called to be a ward missionary so he loves going out with the Elders.

The grandbabies are growing and we are excited that Danielle and Steve will have our third grandbaby in August. Congrats to Darrell and Eve too!

Our Friend Samo

We get to have Sam, Mia and Trent over on Wednesday nights while their mom, Shauna takes a Master's class. They've been visiting for two years and we love having them over.

Andrew DHHS Basketball Success and Elks Student of the Month

We've all had fun attending the DHHS basketball games this winter. Tyler Ott and Brandon Simister in our ward are the star players so we enjoying attending the games along with many of our ward members. Andrew played on the Washington Basketball League the last few months. He also plays with the ward boys. He can dunk the ball now that he is almost 6'4" and is great at swatting the ball away on defense.

Andrew was awarded the Elks Student of the Month recognition and so he, kids from other schools, and all of the parents were invited to a Saturday lunch at the Elks lodge. He has a 3.96 GPA and has made us proud with all of his accomplishments.

Elder Dawson Flake Homecoming January 15, 2012

Dawson gave a great talk at his Homecoming sacrament meeting. It was awesome to have a lot of family here with us. We enjoyed a fun week of playing with cousins. It is always nice to have Grandma and Grandpa Datwyler with us and Grandma Flake came too. We enjoyed family and friends all day.

Peponi Music Video Filming on Location

We went Four Wheeling up on Sand Mountain above Warner Valley with the Hatch's and some Flake cousins. We found a great spot to film the cousins performing a tribute to The Piano Guys Peponi (Cold Play Paradise) music video. We posted the video to youtube and shared the fun with family and friends. It was a great adventure.

Elder Dawson Returns with Honor! January 4, 2012

Elder Dawson Flake returned with honor from two years of service in the California San Jose Spanish speaking mission on January 4, 2012. He left on December 30, 2009 so he can say he served from 2009-2012! Carlton and Steve had to head back to dental school but luckily Danielle and Lindsey and kids could stay and spend another week with us to welcome Dawson home.

Dawson's plane arrived 15 minutes early. Luckily we were just barely there and ready with our signs. The Hatch's, Dave Suttner, Bodin and Angie and kids and of course Brandy were there.

We went to Pres. Topham's house and visited and he released Dawson from full time missionary service. It was a tearful moment as we all felt the release of the mantle of missionary work. So happy to have Dawson home. We have missed his fun spirit and personality.
