Iron Man Volunteering May 7, 2011

Dan, Shelly and Andrew joined our ward to volunteer for the Iron man Triathlon held in St. George. This is the second year it has been held. Dan and Andrew were able to volunteer last year but I was out of town. It was a very warm day and we had the 4:00 pm -12:00 am shift. The athletes were amazing. They swim, bike and then run a full marathon. It was fun to see the locals who participated.

The volunteers had a great time dancing to the music, cheering on the runners and offering them food and drink and encouragement. It was a very worthwhile activity plus we were able to earn money to help the girls pay for camp.

Heather and Spencer Tie the Knot May 6, 2011

My niece, Heather Berger married Spencer Slater on May 6 in the Mtn. Timpanogas Temple. We were so happy to be able to attend. Shelly drove up to Logan two weeks earlier to attend a family bridal shower and watch the kids have an Easter Egg Hunt. It is always fun to participate in a Datwyer get together. The food is always yummy and it is great to catch up with family.

The wedding reception dinner was held at a beautiful country club and everything was fabulous. Heather, Jen, and Julie all looked so beautiful. It was a wonderful event. We are so happy that Spencer and Heather found each other.

Sweet Grandbaby Alexa is 22 months

We are so happy to get more pictures of our sweet little Alexa. She is growing up so quickly. We are so anxious and happy to get to see her in May and again the last of June. She is still blonde at almost age two. Who knows, maybe she'll stay blonde despite her parents dark hair. Sure love her and miss her when she is miles away!

60 Visitors in one Month April 2011

Dan's brother Jon and family stayed with us on their way back from a trip to Southern Cal.
We took them canoeing down the Virgin.

Cousin Darrell and fiance Eve visited and we helped him propose to her in a canoe out
on Sand Hollow Reservoir!

One of the great things about living in St. George is that you get a lot of visitors. The month of April was especially busy because of Spring Breaks. All our relatives have different spring break weeks so we had a nice constant flow of visitors.

Spring Break 2011 St. George was a blast. Over the past month we have hosted Dan's 2 nieces and their families, Dan's two brothers and their families, my two brothers and their families, my two nieces and a fiance and roomates, and Dan's two nephew's and another finace. 60 People! Now accepting reservations for May and June! Good thing we like to party at the Flake Hotel!

February 21, 2011 Danielle and Alexa visit

W

Danielle and Alexa flew in for the President's weekend and stayed a week. We figured it was cheaper to fly her with Alexa before she turns two than for us to all fly up there. Steve was nice and let them come and visit. Danielle chatted with him on web cam and they even played monopoly while Steve was on web cam. Jon, Lesa and family were here for the weekend as well so the boys spent some time playing ball at the Washington rec center and going 4 wheeling.
Alexa was a good sport too.
We took her to the Parade of Homes with us and running errands. She is a great little girl and Danielle is a wonderful mommy. We are so glad that we will get to see their family again in May when they come for a wedding.

Basketball Weekend!

Friday night, February 4 we drove out to Hurricane with Chris and Linda Hatch and watched the BHHS boys basketball team beat Hurricane. It was an exciting game and fun to watch several boys in our ward play and do so well. Andrew was there with his friends. It was hot and crowded up at the top of the bleachers. They are getting a new gym built for next year. Our ward is very supportive of the young men from our ward who play on the team.

Saturday morning we left at 7:00 am and headed to Provo. We visited the BYU Museum of Art and saw the Carl Bloch exhibit of paintings of Christ. It was very humbling to listen to Pres. Holland speak about the Atonement of Christ while we viewed the painting of Christ being comforted by an angel in the Garden of Gethsemane. We also visited the exhibits in the basement: Three Mormon towns; photographs of Gunlock, St. George and Leeds in the 1950's, Western Landscapes, and War Art. I loved them all.

Next we were off to the Marriott center for the big game: BYU vs UNLV. They were really gaurding Jimmer so he only scored 29 points but made 16 of 16 at the free throw line. He also broke the record for most points scored in the Mountain West by a player. It was a lot of fun.

Next, we drove to SLC to the Energy Solutions Center for a Jazz game. Andrew had been awarded a $4,000. scholarship by Energy Solutions and they invited all of the winners to the game and to dinner before. They took a picture of the winners down on the floor before the game started and showed it on the Jumbo Tron at Half time. The Jazz bear stopped by during the dinner. Also the Pres. of the Jazz talked to the kids and Energy Solutions VP spoke to them about sticking with science and majoring in Engineering. He said you will never be without a job.

The game was great but the Oklahoma Thunder beat the Jazz. D-Will is just coming back from an injury but Millsap and Jefferson did well. They even treated us to snacks in the VIP room at half time. It was a fun experience and an honor for Andrew.

We left SLC at 9:30 and drove home. Dan took the first couple of hours and I drove from Fillmore to St. George; arriving at 2:00 am. Listening to Journey and Boston kept me awake. It was a great weekend of basketball. Sorry that Dawson was not able to enjoy it with us.
